Annatto

Annatto, also known as colorífico or annatto powder, is a natural spice made from the seeds of the annatto tree. With its vibrant reddish-orange color, it is widely used in Brazilian cuisine to add color and a light flavor to dishes.

Commonly found in traditional recipes such as galinhada (chicken and rice), arroz de carreteiro (a rice dish with meat), moquecas (fish stews), and other stews, annatto is an essential ingredient in Northeastern and Minas Gerais cuisine. Besides enhancing the appearance of food, it's a healthy option, free of preservatives or artificial colors.

Benefits:

  • Rich in natural antioxidants, such as carotenoids.

  • It has anti-inflammatory properties.

  • It can help with skin and vision health.

Ideal for seasoning meats, vegetables, broths, and marinades, paprika can also be sautéed with garlic and onion at the beginning of cooking, releasing its color and aroma in an even more pronounced way.
